Haize Lizarazu

— piano/teclados

Born in Donostia/ San Sebastián (Spain) in 1988, she did her piano studies in Vitoria, Barcelona (Esmuc), where she did the Bachelor in Music, and in Madrid, taking lessons with the pianist Kennedy Moretti. After that, she moved to Basel-Hochschule für Musik (Switzerland), where she studied the Master SP in Contemporary Music, with Claudio Martínez-Mehner as piano teacher. Her musical activity is focused on the contemporary music, giving special attention to chamber and ensemble music. She is the pianist of Tangram Trio (Switzerland) and Nou Ensemble (Spain), contemporary music ensembles with whom she has performed in several places in Europe. She is very committed to the new and young music creation, having premiered and commissioned works by Jose Pablo Polo, Abel Paúl, William Dougherty, Camilo Méndez or Anahita Abbasi, among others. She has also an important solo activity, with concerts such as “The piano in my life” and “KEY CLICK- a (no) piano concert”, which she has already performed in several countries and festivals (Spain, Switzerland, Brasil).
She has enriched her education on specialized contemporary music courses such as Impuls Academy (Graz, Austria) or Darmstadt Ferienkurse (Germany). She has also attended to many master-classes and received advice from prestigious musicians such as Genady Dzubenko, Alfonso Gómez, Denis Pascal, Ian Pace, Nicolas Hodges, Marcus Weiss, Christian Dierstein or Mike Svoboda. At the same time, she has an important pedagogical background, working in different music schools in Spain (Vitoria, Barcelona, Madrid) and being the Artistic Director of the summer music camps “Musika Bai!” in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain). She is currently piano teacher at the ICMS Basel. She has been awarded in various music competitions, such as National Chamber Music Competition L´Escola de Música de Barcelona, National Music Competition Jóvenes Músicos de Euskadi, National Chamber Music Competition Ciutat de Manresa or the International Piano Competition Ciudad de San Sebastián.
She has performed in many different halls and festivals in many countries, such as Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao, „Martes Musicales“ in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, Festival de Música Española in Cádiz, Festival Carmelo Bernaola in Vitoria, Encontre Internacional de Compositors in Mallorca, EMA Festival Madrid (Spain), Lauenburg Kunstlerhaus (Germany), Gare du Nord, Basel Stadt Casino, Dampfzentrale, Klang Basel Festival (Switzerland), FIME Festival Sao Paulo (Brazil) or Festival Internacional Cervantino (Mexico), among others.
As a performer, she really believes on the importance of the coherence when thinking concert programs. The creation and commission of new pieces and the close work between composer and performer are essential for the conception of a whole concert program. Concepts such as staging, order of pieces and also “extra-musical” elements are the ones that shape the concert as a unity, and not only as a compilation of different musical works.
